braces removed and mold taken for retainer
as i don't get retainer till tomorrow im in hiding as i have a gap at the front of my mouth!
I've recently had my braces removed (May 2009) and now have an Essix retainer for my bottom jaw (to wear at night) and an Hawley retainer for my top jaw with false tooth attached (to wear during the day).
Starting in Aug/Sept 2004 I had Damon type 2 brackets, then In-ovation brackets (replaced March and May 2006) and seven In-ovation brackets without clips (with elastic ligatures).
Total time in braces = 4 years and 8 months!
NB: All treatment is through the NHS apart from implant work done by Mr Ziff which is private.

molds checked to see if they fit my mouth as a shape of my teeth
to have a mold of my teeth as they are before braces removed and implant put in
gave me molds and letter to take to mr s
i tried to get earlier app with mr s but he's fully booked up, i think gap has shut now and wanted to progress quicker as wedding to consider!

Gap moved to front
gap has moved to front of mouth
made gap next to false tooth a bit too big as tooth to cover false tooth and gap would look very wide next to other incisor
told mr s bout implantologists we saw and what they said
mr s says people think my bite is off centre as i dont bite with my back teeth, i need to bite properly! i apparently still force my bottom jaw forward! a habit i guess..

(Mr Ralston)
mr ralston (dental and cosmetic clinic) in south wigston - 2nd cousin recommendation
he said lil flap of gum over tooth needs removin (called a labial frenectomy) as it may affect implant space
he filled gap with a filler and took photos before and after to show what a big tooth in the gap would look like
he took xrays to check bone etc is okay for implant
asked us to get mr s to move false tooth to the side so i can see gap in middle
this one had to be paid for in advance!
fancy equipment in practise and on site parking

Coloured powerchain?
Today I had my usual powerchain removed and replaced.
Before Mr S had a chance to even do it, I said
"I have a question for you, do you have coloured powerchains?"
He asked if I was feeling festive and I explained it is because the clear powerchain gets stained so easily.
Mr S asked his nurse who checked and found a tube of red powerchain but unfortunately it was too old and got distorted when pulled and so was destined for the bin and not my teeth.
So here I am again with a clear powerchain which will turn yellow! Oh well...
Mr S also told me my gaps are closing with great progress, so hopefully when they are shut I think I won't need a powerchain anymore.
That'll be good as I'll no longer have a yellow thing in my mouth.
NB: I found out about getting coloured powerchains and lots of great information about braces from Archwired.com.
NB:
Some photos I've taken on the 7th Dec.
They are not very good I'm afraid as I forgot to use macro but you can see how my teeth are at the moment.

False tooth!
Today I got my wires changed.
Mr S changed both my wires and as my top wire is now more squared he also removed all the tubing and springs I had on the top wire for my gap and attaches my new false tooth!
I also now have a clear powerchain (a chain of elastic ligatures grouped together) attached that goes around more of the brackets of my upper teeth.
The powerchain will help to close up my small gaps on my upper jaw.
The new tooth looks and feels weird as I'm so used to my gap, it's also a bit sore.
He said the tooth will still move back and forth as the wire is not squared enough and advises me not to bite with that tooth.
Hmm... that's going to be hard seeing as it's right in the middle of my mouth!

Miss M leaves
Today I had my bottom wire changed.
Miss M also put my two missing brackets back on and attached them to the wire.
My bottom central incisor which was out of line for so long has finally come forward enough to be attached to the wire for the first time.
She also colour matched my teeth for my false tooth as my top gap is now wide enough. I will get a temporary false tooth for now as I won't get an implant until right after my long treatment (braces, surgery with braces, retainers then implant).
She said it should be ready and put on in my next appointment.
Miss M also informed me I won't be seeing her anymore as she's leaving and I'll be back with Mr S.
I asked about my operation and she said it'll probably be the end of this year and when I asked how long it would take the teeth to be straight she said probably about 9 months.

New tubing and spring tightening again
Today I had new tubing put on either side of my bottom spring.
This is to widen the gap quicker.
The springs for my pre-molars were also tightened.

These new springs are causing my gums to suffer. I have to apply wax on them to relive the pain and damage to my gums.

Wire change and new springs
Today I had my top wire changed.
I'm now 22 years old. I also had two new springs attached to brackets on either side of my gaps from where my top pre-molars were removed.
These are to close the gaps up.

Tubing
Today I had metal tubing put on either side of my two springs to make the gaps widen quicker.
I told Miss M about my operation and also about me losing my back bracket again.
I didn't bother with an emergency appointment this time as last time it came off those teeth hadn't moved.
Miss M said it's not needed for now anyway.

Spring? boing, boing...
Today I got my wires changed by Miss M.
She put a new wire on my bottom teeth and replaced my missing bracket from my bottom pre-molar.
She also put a spring on the wire between my upper central incisor and where the new tooth will go. This is to create a gap for the tooth.
I was used to seeing the little gap I had all closed up and now it's going to be opened up again. Oh well...

Emergency appointment!
Disaster has struck again.
This time a bracket on one my bottom pre-molars has come off the tooth. It is still on the wire so moves back and forth.
The orthodontist I saw removed the bracket and said it doesn't need replacing as she looked at my mold/ impression and it turns out those teeth haven't moved yet so it won't affect them.
She also made the excuse that she's used to type 3 Damon brackets and I have type 2 which she isn't used to opening and closing.
Hmm... no wonder she took a while removing that bracket!
NB: The little gap I had where my missing tooth was has now fully closed up.

Emergency appointment!
One of my brackets came off today and Miss M told me on my previous appointment that if any of my brackets come off I must ring up.
The bracket came off when I was brushing my teeth and fell down the drain!
It was the one that wasn't attached to the wire on my bottom teeth.
I had another orthodontist look at my teeth and she told me that as it wasn't attached it doesn't need to be put back on.
She said if she did put one on, that it'll come off too as my top tooth bites right onto it which made the original bracket fall off in the first place!
NB: The little gap I had where my missing tooth was has started to close up in this short amount of time.

It Begins!
I got referred by my dentist to the Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry Department at Glenfield Hospital.
I wasn't aware of anything being wrong with my teeth before I got referred. As far as I was concerned my teeth were normal.
I have an underbite which isn't very noticeable but affects the position of my teeth.
---------------------------------------------------------
I had my first visit to the Orthodontics Clinic at Glenfield Hospital - Leicester today.
I am still attending secondary school and I'm 15 years old.
I had to be leave school early and went down with my Dad for my appointment.
I met my orthodontist Mr S for the first time.
He had a look at my teeth and made notes in his file.
He also looked at a mold/ impression of my teeth which my dentist had already made.
I told him about my missing adult upper central incisor which I lost when I was 8.
I have a very small gap where the tooth used to be.
NB: Photos of my impressions
